Te Ara Tōrino
Content Creation
Artist Robin Slow’s luminous paintings begin to stir and take breath, beautifully brought to life in this moving image artwork. Te Ara Tōrino is an ara, or pathway of spirals, exploring duality and the interconnected nature of te Ao Māori. Weaving through time and space, worldviews expressed through whakapapa and pūrākau, calling us to be mindful of the unfolding tōrino of our reality.
We began with ten original paintings from Mohua(Golden Bay) based artist Robin Slow. The paintings were photographed at Parker Gallery in Whakatu(Nelson). We then digitally directed the photos, separating out the many intricate layers of the paintings and soon realised the scale of the project we were beginning. Extending out each painting to fill our ultra wide canvas, recreating many aspects using 3D software which included many hours of finding the right way to distribute dots onto a surface. In the end, our pipeline included Photoshop, Illusrtator, Houdini, Cinema 4D, Notch, After Effects and Touch Designer.
